The Software Industry in Mexico
Mexico has the potential to become a key supplier in the global market
for software and information technology (IT) services.
In 2008,
the market value of information technology services (including business
process outsourcing or BPOs) reached US $4.2 billion and the software
market amounted to US $2.4 billion in the same period, according to
Business Monitor.
A.T. Kearney calculates that Mexican IT
services exports were US $ 3.16 billion in 2008, 26% percent more than
the previous year.
Business Monitor estimates that the value of
Mexican IT services and software will reach US $ 10.2 billion in 2013.
Companies Established in Mexico
Our country has over 2,000 IT enterprises.
Several Mexican companies, such as Neoris, ranked as leaders of Latin
American IT companies, according to Global Services Magazine.
Customer service quality of Mexican companies has been recognized by
Brown Wilson’s Annual Outsourcing Survey.
Many of the sector’s most important transnational companies are already
established in Mexico.
Industry´s strengths
A country with qualified labor.
According to estimates by Mexico IT, Mexico has almost 600,000
professionals in the IT industry, including about 400,000 professionals
specializing in software. Furthermore, the nation’s universities
graduate 65,000 new IT specialists each year.
Currently 121 universities are linked to Prosoft, a government support
program.
Infrastructure
The academic and private sector, along with de government, have
coordinated efforts for the development of 24 technology parks
throughout the country.
Mexico has 23 IT clusters distributed in 20 states. Over 60 percent of
the states have productive capacity in IT.
Mexico’s large population makes it possible for various cities to become
service provision centers, which gives Mexico an advantage over other
countries that depend on workforce availability in only one city.
A country with low operation costs.
Mexico is the country with the most competitive operating costs for
software design and shared services center – in comparison with some
European and Asian countries as well as United States and Canada.
